Valuation disclaimer

A valuation certificate states our professional opinion of a vehicle's market value at a particular date, formed from comparable sales evidence and the vehicle's details as supplied to us.

It is an opinion honestly held and reasoned from evidence. It is not a guarantee that the vehicle will sell for that figure, that an insurer will agree that sum insured, that a lender will advance against it, or that a court will adopt it.

Unless we have separately agreed a physical inspection in writing, we have not seen the vehicle. The valuation is prepared from the details and photographs supplied.

It is not a mechanical inspection, a roadworthy or safety certificate, a structural or damage assessment, a compliance assessment, or a title, encumbrance or finance check. If you need any of those, they are separate pieces of work by people qualified to do them.

Odometer readings, service history, accident and repair history, modifications and compliance status are taken as supplied. We do not independently verify them unless we say in the certificate that we have.

If any of that is wrong or incomplete, the figure may be wrong. That is not a limitation we are hiding — it is how every desktop valuation in the market works, and it is why the details matter.

A certificate speaks as at its issue date and is treated as current for 28 days. Specialist, imported and classic vehicle markets can move quickly, and a figure presented as current long after issue is not one we stand behind.

We will email you before a certificate expires. If you need a current figure after that, a fresh valuation is usually quick because we already hold the vehicle's details.

The certificate is prepared for the customer named on it and for the purpose they told us about. Give it freely to the insurer, lender, broker, solicitor or court it was prepared for.

We do not accept a duty to someone we have never dealt with who relies on it for an unrelated purpose. If you have been handed a certificate and want to rely on it for something else, talk to us first — that is usually fine, and it is better said than assumed.

Every certificate can be verified at our verification page using its reference and the vehicle's VIN. Both are needed, so a reference number alone tells nobody anything.

An altered certificate will not verify. If a document purporting to be ours does not check out, it is not ours.

Our fee is fixed and is not affected by the figure we arrive at. We are not paid more for a higher valuation, and we will not adjust a figure to suit a desired outcome.

If we cannot value a vehicle defensibly — insufficient evidence, insufficient information — we will say so and refund the fee rather than produce a number we cannot support.
